saturday!

so today i took a theatre dance class but my calves were really sore from ballet yesterday morning.

for breakfast we had our usual steel cut outs with a banana and a flourless english muffin.

for late lunch/dinner we're having more organic white corn with sauteed kale & red onion in olive oil & some quinoa! nothing too big of a change, these are pretty stable staples over the past few days, but i thought i would update anyway. and tony is currently also slicing up some of our fresh organic pineapple we got (half price this week) at whole foods.

in other news! last night i went on an audition for a USC film and got the part! it's a short film so it shoots tomorrow night from 5pm to 10pm and tony is going to be in it too! i can't wait to work on it, i think it will be a lot of fun. I'm playing a rich spoiled teenage brat & tony is playing the boy that i sneak into my bedroom while my babysitter is studying.

i went over to the samuel french bookstore the other day (on sunset blvd.--there are only FOUR in the world, one in NY, one in London, and two in Los Angeles) so it's a really really cool bookstore full of all industry related books on film, tv, theater, acting, and all that stuff. it's definitely going to be my new hang out. while i was there i bought a great book called "true and false" which is written by a very popular playwright of our time, david mamet. it's a book about acting but it's very general so it covers a lot of different topics. (one of the topics is how actors today lovvve to stay in school and never go out into the real world...)

so after we eat we are going to head down the street and do an open mic!

hello thursday!

today we woke up and had steel cut outs with a flourless english muffin & honey for breakfast.

for lunch we had a red pepper and mushroom wrap with a sweet potatoe.

annnd....because TONY had to go to work and we took too long at whole foods, we didnt have time to make dinner. but we will be making another big granola thing & we both had rice dream mint pies & bananas. (with almond butter & agave nectar sweetener..)

not the healthiest of days.. and i havent exercised yet today.. but yesterday was a really good exercise day because i ran and i took a dance class. tonight i might go take a tap class at 930 because tony is putting a lot of pressure on me that im doing nothing with my life which is NOT the case. can you tell im writing this blog all by myself?! im so angry at him because he claims that i do nothing which isnt true. i missed my open mic tonight because we were running late & i sort of made it sound like it was his fault and he frrrreeeakkked out. even though it sort of was his fault. but anyhow, im reading a really great new book that is apart of the NYU acting curriculum called 'true and false' by david mamet. i also need to spend time memorizing a monologue for acting class.

KALE KALE KALE!

Today we made Sauteed kale with onions and mushrooms and it was delicious. For those of you who are like..what is kale?? Kale is a leafy vegetable. It has the same consistency as spinach, but it's a little heartier & looks like it has more 'veins.' It was a great addition to the mushrooms & onions we normally enjoy alone in a wrap. I suspect we'll be making more Kale again soon. Plus, it's super healthy. Kale is one of the super foods that people hear about & read about in magazines but you never really go out and make it because your mom never made it for you when you were littles probably. like spinach & broccoli. we all know what thats about. but kale is special. just in the produce section and supperrr easy to deal with.

THEN! We made another super amazing baked granola snack. We juiced some oranges & a white nectarine, mixed it with almond butter (made by earth balance...its lightly sweetened with agave nectar), some honey & a bunch of oats from the bins at whole foods. and! a bag of whole foods trail mix that has different nuts, raisins and a little chocolate. (not vegan, but a little bit is okay..)

This got us to thinking and talking about how crazy it is that everyone doesn't just make their own granola bars! We eat tons of granola bars every day and they have tons of ingredients and preservatives we dont know about AND they cost a lot! and when you make it yourself, you get to control everything about it and decide exactly how you want it. and it's really soft & just tastes fresh like a fresh pie. mmmm.. Once you start eating the healthy versions of all your favorite stuff, it's crazy how quickly you'll get addicted to it. We literally eat our granola snack and treat it like it is an amazing pie or a dairy queen blizzard. With no need to feel guilty!!! Plus, it gives you a noticable amount of energy. You literally feel as though you are fueling your body, because you are. your giving yourself what you want. and i cant tell you how many times i read something about one of the new staples in our diet (tons of vegetables, kale, oats, quinoa) about how it cures and prevents cancer & just fights disease like crazy.

but you know what else fights disease like crazy?? LAUGHTER!! which is why we are happy to be comedians & to spread the love every way that we can. (the cheesy police are off today wink wink.)

and in our comedy news--today we auditioned for a pilot presentation for comedy central. it's a remake of a 70s game show called 'the better sex.' except in this version you compete against your ex. of course we pretended we were broken up and just hit it out of the ballpark. super exciting gig. we got to fight and make everyone laugh which is exactly what we're good at.

we also did our spots at our comedy club tonight. :) :)

goodnight for now..might take a walk through west hollywood & watch the gays walk their dogs. best neighborhood !

Sunday Brunch!

Today me and Tony woke up a little later...well he woke up early and went to the hardware store & to whole foods...but i slept a little later. he brought back a baby watermelon & some mushrooms. instead of making breakfast for me when i woke up we decided to go straight to lunch..which we really rarely do. I made some awesome awesommmee guacamole with lemon juice, a perfect avocado, onion & salt. Tony made amaazziinng mushroom and onion balsamic wraps with the best tortilla ever made by the ezekial bread brand which you find in the refrigerated bread section of whole foods. it's flourless so it's wonderful. and of course we had brown rice which i like to cook extra long because i love it fluffy and sticky..and with garlic and butter & a dash of soy sauce.

also! tony juiced half the baby watermelon which made a huge amount of juice--but it tasted a little wierd. for me, the juices are hard to get used to if it's not a juice that's regular like apple or orange. so i drank half a glass, but let me tell you, i was very surprised by how much juice it made. usually you lose a lot of bulk when juicing stuff but this churned out a lot. good bang for the buck if ya know what i means..

then after tony and i filmed some footage for our documentary, worked on some jokes and fought for a half hour, took a bath, we ate some more of the amazing granola snack he made me on friday night. (its a pan full of oats, nuts, orange juice, almond butter & honey.) we're going to make another batch tonight or maybe tomorrow since we are doing two comedy spots tonight.

now tony is at his writing session with one of our friends and then at 7pm we'll both do spots at the comedy store & then later around 930 we are gona head to iO west for their open mic. although i sort of want to just hang out at whole foods...fattttttyy....

Food Pictures

This was a Brown Rice stir fry with sweet potatoes
This was an incredibly Yummy vegetable filled pasta. We juiced a tomatoe as part of the sauce!
Another healthy meal. Brown rice, pasta and fish. We're only sort of vegans cause we eat fish a couple times a week!
MMMM...wraps are my favorite! and we use flourless tortilla wraps made from live sprouts. With our own home made black beans and the guacamole made by me!!
steel cut oats with fresh peaches and drizzles of flax oil :)

Welcome to Flourless, Vegan Comedy

Hello & Welcome! I'm so excited. So this is a blog that me and my boyfriend tony are doing on all the amazing healthy food we've been making and eating and how wonderful it's making us feel.

For starters, everything we are doing we are trying to always do it on the cheap. That might not always happen because food is the most important thing to us so we really have a hard time not splurging everytime we are in whole foods (which is less than a block away from us) and we are there every day after we take a jog in the morning. Wonderful.

It's also important to know that Tony and I used to eat every single meal at Subway and Chipotle. And we always got the healthiest food we could there. All vegetables, extra vegetables, whole grain bread etc. We were so addicted to eating out, it's crazy. Especially being in comedy and having weird schedules it's just so easy to always grab a five dollar foot long.

Then, Tony & I got our own apartment together in West Hollywood just a handful of blocks away from the comedy clubs we work out in. It's crazy how quickly it took off, but we just got so addicted to buying our own fresh produce and making all our own healthy meals. Tony is trying to gain weight, I'm trying to lose a couple (5-15) pounds. Now I can't imagine what it would be like eating the yucky flour-filled bread from subway or the gross white rice at chipotle. We've gone completely flourless & the only rice I'm touching is brown with lemon juice & olive oil spread.

Have fun eating healthy with us!!
